GPO BUILDING MUMBAI,MAHARASHTRA
The Mumbai General Post Office (GPO), located in the Fort area near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, is one of the city's most iconic heritage buildings. Designed by British architect John Begg and completed in 1913, the building is an outstanding example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Constructed using black basalt and yellow Kurla stone, it features a magnificent central dome inspired by the Gol Gumbaz of Bijapur, intricate stonework, arches, and spacious interiors. Besides serving as Mumbai's principal postal hub, the GPO stands as a significant architectural landmark reflecting the grandeur of the British-era urban landscape of Mumbai.
